Bob R. Fields
President and CEO
Bob R. Fields joined TMLT in 1986 and has more than 37 years experience in the insurance industry. He began his career in claims with The Hartford Insurance Group as a claim representative, and was later promoted to claims manager. After working for The Hartford for nearly 13 years, he came to TMLT as a territorial supervisor in 1986. Mr. Fields was named director of the claim department in 1988 and later promoted to executive vice president in 1994. He led the TMLT Claim Operations Department, a department of more than 48 employees, and earned an enviable track record in the management of medical malpractice claims. He is a past member of the Physician Insurers Association of America Claim Section Committee and has served as chairman of the state's Joint Underwriting Association Claim Review Committee. Mr. Fields has served as President and CEO of TMLT since August 2006.
Mr. Fields also represents the interests of TMLT policyholders concerning legislative affairs. He is a past member of the TMA/TTLA medical malpractice legislative negotiating team, a current board member of the Texas Alliance for Patient Access, and a frequent public speaker about medical malpractice liability reform.
Mr. Fields received a Bachelor's of Science in Business Education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1967 and an MBA, with honors, in 1980. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for more than 23 years before retiring as Captain.
John Alexander
Senior Vice President, Underwriting
John Alexander began his insurance career in 1986 with the Providence Washington Insurance Group. He worked there seven years in claim operations and held the position of litigation supervisor.
John joined TMLT in 1993 as a claim supervisor for the Houston area. In 1996, he was named Underwriting Manager and became responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Underwriting Department. Building TMLT's policy count from 8,900 to more than 14,000 while maintaining consistent underwriting standards, John has earned several promotions. He became Senior Vice President in 2007.
Mr. Alexander received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1983. In addition, he holds the AIC (Associate in Claims), CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) and RPLU (Registered Professional Liability Underwriter) insurance designations.
Donald J. Chow
Senior Vice President, Marketing
Since joining TMLT in 1995, Mr. Chow has been responsible for strategic planning and leading all aspects of marketing and sales to Texas physicians.
An honors graduate in business administration from the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Chow's career in the insurance industry spans 24 years. During that time, he has held underwriting, marketing, and management positions with several large insurance companies, including a large insurance brokerage firm in the Midwest. Mr. Chow has also served on a number of advisory boards during his career.
Ray Demel
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Ray Demel came to TMLT in 1998 to manage the accounting, investment, tax, and cash management functions of the Trust. Mr. Demel has more than 13 years of experience in public accounting, including both tax and audit, and more than 20 years in the insurance industry.
Before his employment with TMLT, he was vice president-treasurer of a life insurance company in San Antonio.
Earlier in his career he was a senior audit manager for Deloitte & Touche public accounting firm in San Antonio. Mr. Demel earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. He received his CPA designation in 1976.
Jill McLain
Senior Vice President, Claim Operations
Jill McLain has more than 37 years experience in the insurance industry. Ms. McLain works with the experienced TMLT claims team in managing high exposure cases, in developing effective departmental policies and procedures, and in the strategic handling of mass tort litigation.
Ms. McLain graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's of Arts degree with honors. In addition, she is a Senior Claim Law Associate, having successfully completed the American Education Institute programs in Liability, Property, and Workers' Compensation. She worked for The St. Paul Companies for more than 13 years before moving to Austin.
Jane Holeman
Vice President, Risk Management
Jane Holeman joined TMLT in 1998 as a risk management representative. Ms. Holeman has more than 22 years experience in health care, including clinical/administrative nursing, hospital performance improvement and risk management, and legal-nurse consulting for products liability litigation. She is responsible for developing risk management programs, including physician practice analysis and educational services for physicians and office staff. Ms. Holeman received her Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She received certification in medical-surgical nursing in 1990 and has more than 12 years clinical nursing experience.
Dana Leidig, ABC
Vice President, Communications and Advertising
Ms. Leidig joined TMLT in 1989 and has more than 20 years experience in insurance marketing and communications to medical professionals. She is responsible for developing communications and advertising strategies. Earlier in her career, Ms. Leidig worked for an advertising agency and as an investment broker for a large regional firm. She has a Bachelor's of Arts degree with a focus on business and organizational communication from Concordia University. She is an American Medical Writers Association certified medical writer and a certified communications professional by the International Association of Business Communicators.
Gail Nichols
Vice President, Human Resources and Administrative Services
Ms. Nichols came to TMLT in 1985. She is responsible for overseeing TMLT staffing, benefits, and facilities. Before joining TMLT, Ms. Nichols held positions of increasing responsibility for the North Central Texas Council of Governments and for ARA Manufacturing in Arlington, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned a Professional in Human Resources certification in 1996. Ms. Nichols is a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has served in various volunteer positions, including Executive Board President for the Austin SHRM chapter.
Treg Russell
Vice President, Management Information Systems
Mr. Russell join TMLT in 1997, and is responsible for managing technology systems. At TMLT he helped develop and implement a web-based course delivery engine. The partner chosen to develop this application created a new division to market it. Initial sales included units of the Department of Defense and University of Texas system, and the system continues to be marketed nationally today. Mr. Russell was named IT Executive of the Year by the Austin Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) in 2000. His continuing educational pursuits include earning the Certified Computer Professional (CCP) designation from the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals and the insurance designations of Life and Health Claims Program and the Fellow, Life and Health Claims (FLHC) Program.
