Assistant Controller
This position in the Accounting Department reports to the Controller and is responsible for ensuring financial results are GAAP and statutory compliant; internal controls are maintained; and financial reporting deadlines are met.
Additional responsibilities for this position include:
- supervising month-end close activities and general accounting for specific entities;
- managing statutory financial compliance reporting for multiple entities;
- managing investment accounting system and reporting for multiple entities;
- supervising and creating statutory and GAAP related financial information and support, including the Annual Statement and Investment Schedules, Insurance Expense Exhibit, annual Risk Based Capital reporting, and analysis; and
- preparing and reviewing audit work papers for internal and external auditors.
Requirement include:
- strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting, regulatory compliance, and accounting standards;
- strong experience in supervising accounting staff in the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and other financial information;
- strong accounting and analytical skills;
- technical ability in financial information systems/applications;
- strong database skills - able to work with large data sets and summarize for reporting requirements;
- knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance industry, Medical Professional Liability a plus;
- Bachelor degree in accounting; and
- five to ten years of accounting experience with management, budgeting, audit, consolidations, and financial modeling experience.
CPA is preferred, as is knowledge of investment and reinsurance accounting.
Senior Financial Reporting Analyst
This position, in the Accounting Department, reports to the CFO/Controller and is responsible for preparing complex analyses in support of regulatory and company requirements. Participates in the financial reporting functions (GAAP and STAT) of the company. Analyses include reinsurance claims and premium analyses, company proforma modeling, BOD presentation data and analyses support and taxable income estimation models. Participates in and supports report creation and system change implementation in the company’s administration systems as they interact with accounting processes and reporting requirements.
Skills and qualifications for this role include:
- strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting;
- strong accounting and analytical skills;
- excellent database software and Excel proficiency;
- strong technical ability in financial information systems/applications;
- strong experience in review and analysis of financial statements and other financial information;
- strong knowledge of reinsurance accounting preferred;
- ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, both verbal and written;
- ability to identify problems and opportunities, gather relevant evidence, and make effective decisions using sound judgment;
- bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA preferred; and
- five to ten years of accounting experience with management, budgeting, audit, consolidations, and financial modeling experience.
Business Development Technician
This position, in the Underwriting & Business Development (UWBD) department, facilitates the front-end sales cycle of medical professional liability insurance new business accounts by preparing submissions from agencies and direct quote requests received from our websites.
In the role, the successful candidate will assist the department in performing a full range of clerical, organizational, and administrative functions requiring a high degree of speed and accuracy. Responsible for providing professional, high-quality customer service to TMLT/TMIC/LSA prospective policyholders.
Qualified applicants must be extremely detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and excellent with time management and meeting deadlines. Must perform all duties with a high degree of accuracy, operating independently without constant supervision. Should be comfortable in a highly dynamic environment. Must be hands on with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A working knowledge of database and CRM utilization along with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
Candidate must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via phone, email, in person, and be skilled in English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic. A minimum of one year experience in an administrative role in a professional business environment, or medical professional liability environment required.
High school graduation or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Some college and/or basic insurance courses preferred. Texas Department of Insurance General Lines Agent License required.
Incumbent meeting other selection criteria except possession of the General Lines License is required to obtain the General Lines License within a period of six months upon hiring.
