We are seeking qualified candidates for our Summer Internship Program, taking place June 3 - August 9, 2024. This program presents a hands-on learning experience in a supportive, mentoring environment that provides participants with a realistic look at the medical malpractice insurance industry. 

Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) is a unique, not-for-profit health care liability claim trust owned by its physician policyholders. ​​​​POSITION

UNDERWRITING INTERN

As an intern with the Underwriting Department, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting with our new and enhanced training materials and platform. While your assignments will vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically perform some of the work of an entry-level underwriting  training coordinator.

Duties may include the following.

  • Assist with editing and providing new training documents and learning materials to team members.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the Underwriting department to establish a high-level of accuracy on processes and procedures (P&Ps).
  • Record and edit on-demand video trainings.
  • Implement and customize a new Learning Management System (LMS) for the Underwriting department.
  • Learn the basics of underwriting and how to use various systems and applications.

During this internship period, you will be part of a diverse, experienced team of people who work hard, enjoy what they do, and have strong relationships with each other. Together you will work to meet goals central to TMLT's mission of "making a positive impact on the quality of health care for Texans, by educating, protecting, and defending physicians." 

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for an internship at TMLT, you must be working toward a bachelor’s degree and graduating in 2025, 2026, or 2027.  In addition, the following criteria are highly recommended:

  • attention to detail with an eye for accuracy and a love of graphic design;
  • must be results-oriented, with the ability to complete assignments on time and manage multiple priorities concurrently;
  • enthusiasm for learning new technical editing tools;
  • effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner;
  • ability to build and maintain effective relationships;
  • effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; and
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of TechSmith, and/or video editing skills preferred.
