Summer Internship Program

We are seeking qualified candidates for our Summer Internship Program, taking place June 1 - August 7, 2020. This program presents a hands-on learning experience in a supportive, mentoring environment that provides participants with a realistic look at the medical malpractice insurance industry. 

​​CAREER IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY

You are the future of insurance, whether you become a consumer yourself or an employee in this dynamic industry. If you’re studying mathematics, engineering, journalism, or film, a wide range of skills are needed to predict and communicate the unknown risks that the future will present.

As an intern at our headquarter office, you will be fully immersed in a workplace that will allow you to grow and learn every day. 

​​POSITIONS

ACCOUNTING INTERN

  • As an accounting intern, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments and/or special projects. Below is a sample of special projects that will be assigned to the accounting intern.
    • Create and maintain account analysis files for various balance sheet and income statement accounts.
    • Perform intercompany account reconciliations.
    • Perform daily cash receipts processing and other AP/AR accounting functions.
    • Create and update financial presentations and reports.
    • Prepare management reports and schedules.

CLAIMS INTERN

  • As a claims intern, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments and/or special projects. Below is a sample of special projects that will be assigned to the claims intern.
    • Assist the claims department with the receipt and dissemination of medical records.
    • Research relevant and current legal and/or legislative issues regarding the medical malpractice insurance industry.
    • Research claims reporting requirements in other states.
    • Accompany a claims team member to a mediation and/or trial (local only and pending availability).
    • Research evolving issues in health care and report findings to claims staff.
    • Attend and participate in department meetings.
    • Complete miscellaneous projects involving data collection, organization, and presentation.
    • Prepare medical chronologies for individual claim reports.

IT INTERN

  • As an intern with the Information Technology Department, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by working with professionals on day-to-day job assignments. While your assignments may vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically perform some of the work of an entry-level TMLT employee. Below is a sample of special projects that will be assigned to the IT intern.
    • Develop medium to complex SQL queries (Oracle).
    • Create management dashboards for use by individual departments and the CEO.
    • Work with various departments to understand processes and reporting needs.
    • Attend and participate in department meetings.
  • Experience building SQL queries – preferably Oracle – is highly recommended.

LEGAL INTERN

  • As an intern with the legal department, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments. While your assignments will vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically assist on the completion of various legal department tasks and projects including:
    • Contract management tracking
    • Work on a paperless project by scanning documents into an electronic imaging program.
    • Legal research projects
    • Test workflow of upgraded software system.
    • Submission of regulatory filings
  • Must be working towards a law degree (graduating in 2021, 2022 or 2023).

OPERATIONS/PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & CONSULTING SERVICES INTERN

  • As an operations/product development and consulting services intern, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments and/or special projects. Below is a sample of special projects that will be assigned to this intern.
    • Create and update several different department toolkits and reference sheets.
    • Work on a paperless project by scanning documents into an electronic imaging program.
    • Update department presentations to the most recent PowerPoint versions.
    • Test workflow of upgraded software system.
    • Conduct research on relevant medical malpractice insurance topics and report findings to team.

RISK MANAGEMENT INTERN

  • As an intern with the Risk Management Department, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments. While your assignments will vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically perform some of the work of an entry-level TMLT employee. Below is a sample of special projects that will be assigned to the risk management intern.
    • Audit continuing medical education (CME) files.
    • Assist the Risk Management Department with group proposal preparation.
    • Edit risk management material for TMLT publications.
    • Enter, retrieve, and scan information of varying complexity using computer systems and applications to update records.
    • Accompany a risk management team member on a practice review and observe a CME activity (local only).
    • Research and report on an evolving issue in health care.
    • Attend and participate in department meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for an internship at TMLT, you must be working toward a bachelor’s degree and graduating in 2021, 2022, or 2023.  In addition, the following criteria are highly recommended:

  • effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner;
  • ability to build and maintain effective relationships;
  • effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; and
  • proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.
