Safe Harbor counselors share strategies and advice for physicians

The demands of practicing medicine can take a heavy toll. Safe Harbor counselors can help physicians address depression, stress, burnout, grief, relationships, and more.

The demands of practicing medicine can take a toll on physicians — both professionally and personally. When they need support, knowing where to turn can make a difference.

TMLT continues its work with the Travis County Medical Society to help physicians get the support they need through the Safe Harbor Counseling Program.

Safe Harbor offers confidential counseling and therapy services to physicians and their spouses or partners. The program helps connect physicians who are seeking help for a mental health issue with vetted counselors who have experience working with physician clients.

Counselors can work with physicians to address depression and anxiety; grief counseling; career difficulties; dependency and addiction; relationship issues; family conflicts and parenting; and more.

What does that support look like in practice? In this four-part video series — produced by TMLT and Travis CMS — Safe Harbor counselors share practical guidance and discuss how counseling can help.

How Safe Harbor works
TMLT covers the cost for any TMLT Texas policyholder for up to four visits with a Safe Harbor counselor (four visits for you and four visits for your spouse or partner.) Counselors are available to clients online or in person (physicians in Travis County).

Counseling sessions are confidential; no diagnosis is made; no insurance is billed. Those who receive counseling through this program do not have to report their participation to the Texas Medical Board or credentialing entities.
